Not the GOAT you’re looking for.
Most of my inventory of DFS no-copy virtual farm products is gone. That is, the stuff I didn’t want is gone. I’m keeping things that look great rezzed out as decor, or that are fun to look at and work with. Got rid of almost everything else.
I’ve got a project in mind to re-create all of my old, dated prim and sculpty-based products on the Second Life Marketplace, started in Blender, I’ve bought another year of support for the latest version of Avastar, and due to this announcement from LL, items on the MP will be unlisted automatically if the item hasn’t sold in more than a year, AND if the store owner hasn’t logged in in more than a year.
It doesn’t solve the problem of owners who have passed away, but as long as their products sell, their store will remain a visible zombie, delivering products. Their heirs can keep the revenue, or shut it down if they need to.. (EDIT: that happened with Timeless Textures, so group members bought everything they could).
This new policy gives me a framework to continue teaching myself how to do what I need to do in Blender – as I rework each old product in mesh, will blog it. Woopdedo.
Meanwhile Blender 5.2 is installed, but needs to have various plugins installed. I’ll keep working in 4.2* for now. I saved the oldest product still listed, a Mardi Gras necklace that needs some mesh zhuzhing up.
(EDIT: This will be done from scratch using an array modifier. Downloaded the Mardi Gras textures, they’re full perm.)
It exported without the textures, but I have them downloaded. Will work on it some more tomorrow. At least the colors exported, so that I’ll have materials to create for the different colors.
The DFS items seem to sell well in the SL Marketplace, compared to how hard I have to promote them to get people to come by my farmstore in Tweddle. Why work against my own inclination? The things I like to make or grow will go straight to MP, and I’ll have more time and energy to make new things, for which I have ideas galore. Hats, necklaces, fountains, windchimes; all the things that I loved to make back before the brainrot set in (EDIT: and the fear of each new learning curve in Blender versions).
Meanwhile, DFS stuff like these crazy goats are GREAT designs – frankly, some of the recent special items just didn’t get my heart goin’ zoom zoom zoom.
