NEW Chameleonic Holiday Fedora – 1LI

Celebrate the holidays in style with this fun and festive green fedora. The hat band looks like a candy cane – and after the holidays, you can retexture with any tileable or horizontal textures you have. Change the band and wear it for St Patrick’s Day, too. Source: Second Life Marketplace – @LC@ Chameleonic Holiday Fedora 2015 It’s just a simple hat – but at 1LI, it won’t bring the sim to its knees at the big holiday bash. This is my first mesh product and I did my best to optimize it – expect a long post later about…

Blender: Straighten Up And UV Right

Finally, I got something figured out with Blender! After much looking around, got a clear answer from Blender Stack Exchange. How can I straighten ALL the vertical UV lines at once? Is there a hotkey short cut? Or if I have to do them one by one .. is there at shortcut for that? Thank you! Source: How do I straight UV map’s – Blender Stack Exchange The answer turned out to be both “There’s an app for that!” which didn’t work, and “do it the old school way, like a boss,” which did. The instructions are beautifully clear, concise,…

That Thing I Made In Mesh Last Night

Prepare to be astounded. No, really, sit down or you’ll fall over laughing. This last one is in comparison to one of the sculpted walkways Linda Kellie left in a texture pack in one of my OARS: And this is why I felt compelled to get off my ass and make something, anything, in Blender last night: The original path sculpt map won’t even rez, this is an almost identical one. LOD is good – much better than for my crappy fedora hat (which I will eventually finish or redo from scratch). Meanwhile some exported prim builds that I have…

GIMP 2.9.2 Released – Warp Tool at last?

Great to see that the next stage in GIMP is here, as the lack of a good warp tool had frustrated me some time ago. Looks like an upgrade is in order. While I’m at it, time to upgrade Blender, as there’s a bug fix that reportedly affects rigging attachments, and I may be playing with that soon. UPDATE: this is the next development release, available for download. I upgraded to the current stable release, 2.8.16. New and Improved Tools All tools in GIMP are now GEGL-based and fully functional in up to 32bit per color channel precision mode. GIMP 2.9.2 also…

Blender Resources For The Deeply Befuddled

This page will hold links to some of the tutorials I've found helpful, illuminating, or have bumbled across numerous times in search of answers. Also found here will be stuff relating to OpenSim, as it is useful to have a locally hosted OpenSim private grid as a test bed for uploading meshes and textures.

This Is Where I Came In: Second Life Thriller Optioned By Reese Witherspoon’s Production Company

I’ve been thinking about this for a few days, and not seeing any mention on other SL blogs: Warner Bros. and Reese Witherspoon’s Pacific Standard are developing a film adaptation of SECOND LIFE. Written by S.J. Watson (Before I Go to Sleep), Second Life is a psychological thriller about a woman who creates an online persona to find the truth behind her sister’s violent murder. Once a devoted wife and mother, Julia starts to lose herself in the lies she creates, jeopardizing not only her marriage, but her son’s safety. via {TB EXCLUSIVE} Psychological Thriller “Second Life” Set At Warner…

Blowing The Dust Off for Mardi Gras, and a Lenten Vow

After a long time away from my inworld home and friends, I made it back in time for bon temps in St John Parish. The party was held in the Maison Bleu club, hosted by the inimitable DJ Holocluck. The music was terrific and the typist got up and danced. I will be working on some new projects – sadly, I won’t be participating in STEAM X as a merchant, but happily I will be a hunter! I just felt I needed to improve my building skills, and I’ve taken a vow during Lent to try to do something toward…

Zero Brush Addon By: Blender Sensei

As seen at Blender Nation – an intriguing and very intuitive texturing and painting addon for Blender that’s getting a lot of buzz in comments. For one thing, it’s easy to use, and for another, it’s free. There is a library of free textures as well – the license seems to be free to use for commercial applications, no mention of any restrictions for Second Life. The main product looks interesting, a productivity and organizational suite for Blender called Sensei Format that has a lot of useful tweaks and tools for serious Blender artists (especially useful: integrated texture and materials…

Retopology with Optimo Maximo at #BuildersBrewery for #Blender

Yes, I’m being dogged (or rather kittehed) about it. I have the day off and today is a school day for learning Blender. Currently, have read through chapter 3 of Blender Graphics by John M Blain (first edition). I’m doing some of the learning modules on Gryllus.com later today, too. But this Retopology class came up, and as I can never attend Maximo’s classes during my normal work week, this is too important to miss. Must not ragequit, must not ragequit. OM. NOM. NOM. So hey, I was able to follow along for a while, and when I got stuck,…
