I was SO CLOSE. THISCLOSE to getting it right. So I went back and redid a new one with 3 planes, 6 faces. This is the old sculpt on the left, new mesh with 4 planes on the right.

Here begins my tale – I’ve somehow become marooned on a desert island (actually, an archipelago) and my only hope of survival is to make or build or salvage or scrounge whatever I can. It was a dark and stormy night, etc. etc., and here I am on the beach of a lovely but desolate island, with a random assortment of crates. I fell off a container ship, along with several containers, boxes, and barrels. We were in shallow waters and struck ground, and I went over the side. Unfortunately, the crew didn’t see me or hear my screams for…

Finally, I got something figured out with Blender! After much looking around, got a clear answer from Blender Stack Exchange. How can I straighten ALL the vertical UV lines at once? Is there a hotkey short cut? Or if I have to do them one by one .. is there at shortcut for that? Thank you! Source: How do I straight UV map’s – Blender Stack Exchange The answer turned out to be both “There’s an app for that!” which didn’t work, and “do it the old school way, like a boss,” which did. The instructions are beautifully clear, concise,…

Prepare to be astounded. No, really, sit down or you’ll fall over laughing. This last one is in comparison to one of the sculpted walkways Linda Kellie left in a texture pack in one of my OARS: And this is why I felt compelled to get off my ass and make something, anything, in Blender last night: The original path sculpt map won’t even rez, this is an almost identical one. LOD is good – much better than for my crappy fedora hat (which I will eventually finish or redo from scratch). Meanwhile some exported prim builds that I have…

It’s a long time since I messed around with my little test grid, Haleakaloha. I’ve got quite a few different OARS and I’ve saved different versions of my inventories, but haven’t worked with it much after my original installation of New World Studio got hopelessly corrupted. So months and months ago, I started playing around with Sim on a Stick (http://simonastick.com/) and got things to the point where I’d uploaded some primitive mesh, and also imported some .dae or .obj files from Second Life or Blender. Now it’s time to mess about in there again and actually make use of…

A while back, this caught my eye: High Fidelity is Philip Rosedale’s new virtual world project. This is currently in the very early stages of Alpha but you can signup to that Alpha from the main webpage. However you won’t be able to login to High Fidelity or see any of its features. However it does seem as if it is possible to login to High Fidelity. There are clues on how to do this, starting from the jobs page. There a challenge is laid down to people who may want to do paid work for High Fidelity:“We are seeing lots…

Here I am, on my standalone grid Haleakaloha, which isn’t very interesting and isn’t open for visitors, and up until yesterday, it wasn’t working very well because of a texture-reloading bug. Also, I’ve been struggling with Blender again, trying to learn it and not get discouraged. Yesterday, SUCCESS, after getting some help, I installed an update that fixed my Open Sim grid. Today, SUCCESS, I made a blob. You may not think this is a big deal, and it’s a badly textured blob, but I made it, and I figured out what I wasn’t doing right that made it turn…

Oh, hey, I made a thing here. Actually, two things. Thing One is a pinky purpley mesh blocky thing. After reading through some really helpful TEXT and STILL PICTURE tutorials from Tufts University last night, I sat down and made a random shape via extrusions at lunch, in about 15 minutes start to finish. Woo. And then I assigned a material to it and uploaded to my standalone grid, using Kokua because Firestorm-OS crashed to desktop. And hey, IT WORKED. What a bumblefrack it was, though. Sorry that it’s disturblingly blocky and unnatural, yet evocative of a certain much-mocked object…

I got these nifty little texture/sculpty organizers working in my private grid, Haleakaloha, a few months back. The script is by Solo Mornington; download it and the README and the base textures at GitHub. Open Source Scripting Fun The cool thing is that it builds itself. You basically lay out 22 box prims and link them. Then you put the textures from the Resources folder on Github in it and install the script, and WHAM, instant low-lag 20-pane texture organizer. It has texture mode and sculpty mode, it checks for perms and advises how many textures were not loaded due…
