    Scripty Stuff

Needed to figure out how to fix the hover or floating text that I use for some of my storage objects (specifically, something I call my “tansu” organizer. However, this didn’t really seem to solve my problem; the hover text is stubbornly too high above my prim. Ah well. LSL Wiki : llSetText The text will always be positioned to float straight up (parallel to the world’s Z-axis) from the prim’s center at a distance of half the prim’s Z scale plus some fixed offset. The float text uses the prims Z axis regardless of it?s rotation. This means that…

    Sorting Out A Virtual Spy

@kqthomson, AKA KeithThomson SecretSpy, is all set for his upcoming Second Life appearance on Monday, 22nd of March at Lacamas Reading Hall (6pm SLT/PDT). Through the miracle of multiple streaming conversations via a variety of aetheric tele-communication devices, KT was able to call me. Right, so that’s sorted. It’s a rugged Steampunk spy look, and the author approved his avatar’s appearance when I spoke with him last night in a dry-run appearance at Lacamas Reading Room with BookemJackson Streeter and Dano Bookmite. Thank GOD we got Skype running, I had to install it on the fly and figure out how…

My House Is Missing, Got Milk Carton?

Second Life Blogs: My House Is Missing – Got Milk Carton? I was in the process of moving things around and backing up my house yesterday (heard about asset server issues) and as I was taking the main building into inventory, it disappeared. It’s completely invisible, does not show up when I toggle Highlight Transparent , yet is not clickable or editable, and the walls and interior partitions are solid. The doors and windows were created by others and so they’re all still there and functional – which is good as I can’t walk through my invizibl wallz. The parcel…

    Paradise Escaped

Lelani who? Yes, yes, I’m back. Finally returned from my island home, with armfuls of flowers for lei-making and home decor,  and some pictures of wildlife,  and rather a lot of delicious smelling hair and skin products which unfortunately don’t translate well to the virtual world that is Second Life (although I may try to create a store for them here). Oh, and I got some fun hair ornaments, which I believe will translate very nicely, and have lots of ideas for jewelry, island-style. I wasn’t able to work much while in the islands, owing to a poor Internet connection…

Buggy? Maybe this was the problem

I heard from several (not all) purchasers of some of my party necklaces that the permissions were not as I had advertised, and that they either wanted a modifiable version or a refund. I’m currently not near my “home” computer, using an older laptop that wheezes a bit when running Second Life, so as soon as I got back to the laptop, I messed with my products to ensure that they were definitely set with the right permissions so people could either modify them, or give them to friends. One Resident never got the corrected version, either – now that…

Textures Coming From the Land of Aloha

Not able to go inworld much these days – currently have a very slow Internet connection and don’t have access to home machine and GIMP.  However, I’m gathering some textures while my typist is on vacation in Maui, you can be sure! Mostly they will be plant and flower textures, plus whatever else that is interesting catches my eye. Getting lots of ideas for necklaces, pottery, and other wearable art while browsing shops and craft stands, too. There’s beautiful work being done here by local artists – lots of fused glass, painted silk, antique beads, and big batik floral graphics…

    Down the Rabbit Hole

Check out this fun Second Life Machinima by Tensai Hilra and TotalLunar Eclipse!  As it happens, I was there, but this appears to show only Tensai and TotalLunar, perhaps just before the party. I’m so glad I went to this event; it was an amazing dreamlike experience – especially the “going down the rabbit hole” part. Except that I fell off the platform the first time, and missed the fancy stairs completely! So I went back and did it again, more slowly so I could watch the odd things fly past in the rabbit hole. My business partner Dhughan lives…

Beads, Mardi Gras, and the Superbowl: New Orleans Rising

Even I am happy about this: New Orleans wins the Super Bowl 31 – 17 against the Colts, best remembered as the guys that snuck out of town in the dead of night. Got beads? Want some virtual ones? Check out my virtual store online or inworld in Tintafel. Yes, yes, I’m pimpin mah beadz, but at least the setting is appropriate. Mardi Gras! It’s this Tuesday – are you ready to party in New Orleans (or New Toulouse)? It’s time to earn your beads and go wild, girls and boys! You can give or gift these beads to friends,…

    Weekly Tweets 2010-02-07

Oh good, the blog-tweet thingy is working. 45 minutes on RL exercise bike at RL club, #completed Next: shoe store, then home. # Oh good. My mouse just died, and the grim silence as my in-house geek works on the computer worries me. # RT @MoodyLoner "RT @DanaHoule: I. Don't. Fucking. Care. If. A. Bill. Is. Bipartisan. Neither do voters. Just pass fucking bills." # @ordinal Wish someone would tell that to Shazam and a number of other sites. I may have to smack WP's Twittertools with a stick. in reply to ordinal # Not unlike what i plan in…

    ZOMG! So much completed!

I created another Pacific Northwest Coast-style bracelet, photographed it, embellished the image with my gimpy GIMP skillz, added it to my otherwise empty XStreetSL inventory, and got the thing listed. #Completed I’m not sure if it depicts an Eagle or a Raven, but I think the Raven in PNW Indian art usually has a bluntly pointed beak, and this one looks more like a raptor’s hooked schnozz. It’s for sale on XStreetSL, it’s in a box in my mostly-empty shop inworld, and it’s also in a vendor that I just got working, that was given out in an excellent “Sell…
