The typist was on vacation the last two weeks of August, bumbling around the real-life Pacific Northwest on foot, by bike, by car, and by ferry. Oh, and by air, in that weird, awkward, and slightly intrusive way they fly in “real life.” So she missed the excellent “Exploring Second Life” meme started by Strawberry Singh. On her return, she was prompted to approve (or re-approve after an update, maybe) this old trackback about Steelhead by Inara Pey, which referenced this post about Steelhead Shanghai. Steelhead itself is the commercial centre for the community. here you’ll find the train station,…

Here’s an opportunity – there are a couple of plots in Steelhead Shanghai available that are already set up to be light industrial slum-like factories with horrible working conditions complete with worker “housing” nearby. It’s like the future site of Foxconn, but they’re still stuck making the iSteamphone. Contact Moon Elf, Mad Builder, and Reluctant Slum Lord TotalLunar Eclipse inworld for more information. Righto, then. The bally free sticks are selling like bally free hotcakes. In the interests of keeping up with an inbox that has gone mad, the AO and the demonstrator or “freebie” jade stick will increase in price to $L1 (ie ONE LINDENBUCK) on August the Oneth. So please, everyone; fetch the stick! Go get it! Thus, the stick and the AO will become a “dollarbie,” which won’t keep the wolf from the door but might keep a small scripted cat in kibble. They are both available from my Tweddle shop. I look forward to finally getting in a good…

UPDATE: Apologies to the person who tried to buy an item from a non-working vendor. New vendor goes live tonight. /me whacks head with stick Dhughan here, finally getting “on the stick” as it were. Rather embarassed to admit how little headway I’ve made with my products since this pompous and self-important post. However, the new shop in Tweddle is open. my parkland in Steelhead St Helens is soon to sport a wee cabin, and I’ve finally begun making new items and improving older ones. There is now a free AO (men’s and women’s) in a box at the Tweddle…

Yes, yes, Dhughan here, very slack of me to disappear like that. I happened to be very busy avoiding as much work as possible during the holidays. Back again in good old Steelhead Shanghai, and there certainly are interesting things happpening this week. —- Chinese New Year 2012: Year of the Dragon – Breathing Fire into the New Year Chinese New Year is the longest and most important celebration in the Chinese calendar. The Chinese year 4710 begins on Jan. 23, 2012. Chinese months are reckoned by the lunar calendar, with each month beginning on the darkest day. New Year…

During the course of making and decorating items for my shop in the STEAM hunt, I was struck by the story of Princess Ka’iulani of the Kingdom of Hawaii, who was deposed before she ever ruled by American business interests, and who died young after spending many years being educated in England. She was a proper Victorian lady of royal birth, and like the inestimable Isabella Bird, is an inspiration. In fact, she was known as the Peacock Princess, and so I have decided to include peacock feathers in my hunt gift, because God knows we all need a little…

The anti-vice factions are beginning to flex their muscles in Steelhead Shanghai; although it’s deservedly famous for its architecture there have been rumblings in the local news organ that a volunteer battalion may be forming up. *A notice appears in the places frequented by merchants, guns for hire, and bar/saloons where military types would frequent. The message itself is complete nonsense, unless you are skilled in military cryptography to decode the message, even then, the message is further in Latin, making it that much more difficult to translate. Once translated, it reads* Greetings, We, the repressed and downtrodden members of…
