  • Stick Needs Moar Werk

Time for boycat Dinkies and male Tinies to have a decent walking stick with simple animations – so I started to adapt the Ivory Walking Stick, which is old enough to need some freshening up.

I started by testing some nicer textures for the ivory, and setting it in a sort of cup-bezel with engraved silver fittings (I may play with materials a bit if they don’t add greatly to the land impact (LI). Then I resized it to the right length for a Dinkie or Tiny avatar, and got the pos/rot information with a script so as to update the control script. At last, I hopped smartly on to a pose stand to run it through the animations to test various positions and rotations.

It appears to need a little more work.

In any case, it won’t take long to correct, I’ll have to adjust things to account for the portly/dumpy figure of the Dinkies mesh avatar. It will come with a simple top hat. The tailcoat is by Kaosome Hotshot, the AV is by Etheria Parrott, and already the Dinkies have a lively and fun community, though of course we boycats don’t have a lot of choices for outfits. I hope to do something to correct that.

  • Dhughan Froobert, Shy AV, has some new products #SecondLifeMarketplace #Caspervend

Yes, I’ve been motivated lately – not only did I just list this at the Marketplace:

An antique rug for sale. Non-flying.
An antique rug for sale. Non-flying.

A simple antique rug, well worn but carefully kept, enhances any decor. This one has paler, more subtle colors and more vertical lines and angular designs in the corners.

via Second Life Marketplace – @DF@ Antique Rug Egyptian Revival.

But I also have this for sale in my NEW SHOP in Steelhead City, as well as in the Tweddle outlet shop:

A dramatic DRAGON in relief. With free lantern
A dramatic DRAGON in relief. With free lantern

Currently I’ve only had time to load it in inworld vendors, but will add it to the Marketplace presently.

I have some exciting plans cooking around in my brain. Do stop by.

  • The Dragonlord Walking Stick – $L150 at #SLMarketplace

    1-DragonlordCanePlain_002_005-001

Now available at SL Marketplace – The Dragonlord walking stick

    Dragonlord512

The head is a dramatic silver with heavily scaled greenish-black patina, and silver dragons gamboling about the ring just below the handle. The wooden shaft is solid chestnut, and there is no ferrule so that you may stretch or shorten the stick to fit your height (remember to edit linked objects).

While testing the new stick I pottered around Steelhead on walkabout – I shall try to do on Sundays, it was a pleasant stroll and it got me out of my workshop.

    • Simple, elegant walking stick – 3
    • Suitable for either males or females add female anims
    • Compatible with Posture is Everything’s Gentleman Jim LIGHT and FULL GJ Cane AOs

via Second Life Marketplace – @DF@ The Dragonlord Walking Stick c/m/nt

Also on my mind of late: If you purchase the “Basic Gent’s Cane AO” for $L15 and subsequently purchase one of the full-featured canes, they currently come with the same AO. I am happy to refund the $L15 on any duplicate purchases – if I happen to have my wits about me, I shall send purchasers an IM advising of the refund. If you purchased the Basic Gent’s Cane AO some time ago, I may not have caught the duplication – please do send me an IM anytime, I receive them as emails.

  • The Oneth and Future Dollarbie

Righto, then. The bally free sticks are selling like bally free hotcakes. In the interests of keeping up with an inbox that has gone mad, the AO and the demonstrator or “freebie” jade stick will increase in price to $L1 (ie ONE LINDENBUCK) on August the Oneth. So please, everyone; fetch the stick! Go get it!

Thus, the stick and the AO will become a “dollarbie,” which won’t keep the wolf from the door but might keep a small scripted cat in kibble. They are both available from my Tweddle shop. I look forward to finally getting in a good shipment of jade textures with which to craft a completely new, scripted stick that works with more than one walking stick AO. Realistically, this will probably not be until after the oneth of September.

Having discussed the matter with Her Nibs, Miss Carver, I have deferred to her seniority and she shall apply to be in the STEAM 7 hunt. This frees me up to sit in the corner of my Tweddle shop and whittle sticks, and also to build a fishing shack on my lakeside property in Steelhead St Helens.

Of course, Miss Carver shall be relying on my expert knowledge of sticks, hats, archeology, and small cats. And I will probably make a small but amusing giftie to go in the gear, in the hunt theme of course. Must consult with old T. Caligari to find out how to make tactical weapons with squirrels; there’s a worthy starting point.

Meanwhile, I have been quite busy and have now converted all my meagre Second Life Marketplace items to Direct Delivery, which so far works admirably for free things but not so admirably for actual “pay the rent” items (I jest, although there was one partly wonky transaction that got sorted quickly).

There are also a few new things; some quite nice painted Indian pottery I bartered for on my way out of New Mexico. They will become part of my import/export doings with the Far East (which is even further West than I am, hence the name).

This one has a nice design of birds. I decided they were swallows, which love to build their nest in the stone alcoves (and under the eaves of barns) in the old Southwest.

A virtual pot from the American Southwest. The Chinese like these to put things in.

    Southwestern Swallows Pot

The other pot has a sort of lightningish-mountainy design that seemed quite striking.

The Chinese will like this, too. Also some rich gentry back East collect them.

    Southwestern Thunder Mountain Pot

In return I expect a shipment of Chinese textiles, tea, ceramics, and assorted oddments. H’rrm. I do miss the convenience of my old railcar in Steelhead Shanghai for the water trades… so convenient taking delivery or sending on under consignment, pity about the vice crackdown. Ah, well.

Interesting note about that last listing – the product photo was taken using a plain backdrop and projection lighting. It was the simplest product photo ever taken; all that needed doing was a simple square crop and resize to 512 pixels (might add a title later). You may have noticed Miss Carver stealing my idea for her own product photos, very cheeky of her.

I also found time to update my old Haida bracelet, which needs a new photo to show its newly smoothed back bezel. And I re-listed the Mesa Verde Cliff House photo, but really ought to find a better easel. The one included was my very first building project in SL, can’t quite bring myself to de-rezz it.

Enough blather, must lose consciousness now. Good night, minions.

  • Gearing up for STEAM 7 in #SecondLife

UPDATE: Apologies to the person who tried to buy an item from a non-working vendor. New vendor goes live tonight. /me whacks head with stick

Dhughan here, finally getting “on the stick” as it were. Rather embarassed to admit how little headway I’ve made with my products since this pompous and self-important post. However, the new shop in Tweddle is open. my parkland in Steelhead St Helens is soon to sport a wee cabin, and I’ve finally begun making new items and improving older ones.

There is now a free AO (men’s and women’s) in a box at the Tweddle shop (the landmark is in my Picks).

Must add it as a freebie to my Marketplace listing and also add it to existing walking stick listings. The gent’s version has been added to the Swirled Steampunk and Ivory-Headed walking sticks listings.

On my list of Things To Be Done:

Must retire the older Jade stick (unscripted) and replace it with a better jade one now in development. Perhaps put it out as a freebie in the AO box after updating it with the cane-control script, people could try as a demo.

Must continue to invite customers to my Further West Updates Group, in spite of near-fatal Shy Person Syndrome.

Must test another good cane AO and see if the cane configuration card can be adapted to work well with it.

Must photograph self in various poses with my free AO along with the infinitely more dapper poses offered by Posture is Everything’s GJ Cane and Gentle Jim AOs. And then add those to my cane listings.

Must make some more lamps, photograph and list them.

Must finish the new vendor(s) tonight, lost another sale due to my incompetence setting up that gorram 1-prim vendor currently in the shop.

Must gift all past purchasers of sticks with the AO. STEAM hunters got an older version, pity I was too shy to put out a spammy group inviter. Must photograph the Shanghai stick and list it on Marketplace. Current update group members will also find the Shanghai stick, which was the most STEAM 5 gift, in the group notices (BLATANT CLUE, SEARCH FOR THE GROUP AND JOIN, my minions).
